IIT Hyderabad Students Win 'Smart India Hackathon 2019'
SNAAPP, a team of six M. Tech students at IIT Hyderabad developed a mobile app for a steel construction problem for which they did non-stop coding for 36 hours. They received Rs. 75,000 as prize money for the same.
IIT Hyderabad students have won the ‘Smart India Hackathon 2019’ for their solution to a steel construction problem. They won Rs.75,000 as prize money. SNAAPP, a team of six students with M.Tech in Communication and Signal Processing was involved in non-stop coding for 36 hours and then delivered the mobile application as a part of their solution.
They had to develop a mobile app to update the progress of the construction site and to generate reports through the app for higher authorities and managers. Dr. Abhinav Kumar, the team mentor of SNAAPP and the Assistant Professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering said the team has come up with an innovative solution.

The app was divided into two parts such as the manager’s dashboard and the site engineer’s dashboard. Different site engineers belonging to different areas will have to give details such as images and text. GPS location and timestamp will be picked up automatically and they will be used to verify the images. After the submission of the report from the site engineer’s dashboard, the information will show on the manager’s dashboard and he can then check the progress.
Apart from this, the site engineer can also ask for other information such as material, machine or workforce related. The reports will be generated on a daily and weekly basis. The app was developed to solve the problems faced by the higher authorities and manager regarding the difficulties and construction update faced by the labourers and site engineers. The app is in progress for android mobile phones.

Siddharth Gupta, the team leader at SNAPP said that they have plans to work with the Ministry of Human Resource Development for extending the project further and produce it as a commercial product. The app can send updates directly from the authorities working on the field and this will lead to a reduction in the time gap between managers and engineers. It will also help in reducing or optimizing the costs. There will also be information about any project delays. Plus, the app will help in building a database for the infrastructure construction and the database can be modified or updated for any further assistance.
