IIT & IISc Come Together for Climate Change Initiative
IIT Mandi and IIT Guwahati along with IISc Bengaluru have collaborated together to form a Climate Change Vulnerability Assessment for all the 12 states in the IHR. The assessment will also use one framework to find out the needed information.
A collaboration has come up between Indian Institute of Technology Mandi, Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati and Indian Institute of Science Bengaluru. The collaboration will see the development of a Climate Change Vulnerability Assessment for the Indian Himalayan Region (IHR) which will use a common framework.
The vulnerability assessment is a way to measure the vulnerabilities and the reasons behind climate change. The Climate Change Vulnerability Assessment will provide valuable information to all the agencies and institutions like the governments, decision-makers, implementers, development makers and funding agencies, etc.

The 12 states that fall under the IHR are Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Tripura, Nagaland, Sikkim, West Bengal’s hilly regions, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir.

According to Ashutosh Sharma, Secretary, Department of Science and Technology, highlighted the importance and the effect of the project. He says that the collaborative effort will result in adaptation to climate change, with the help of correct use of technology along with a vision to which produces policies and change at the ground level with an engaging local community. There has been a drastic change in the climate for a few years. Therefore, it is very important to come up with initiatives like these to address the problems and come up with definitive solutions for the same.
