IIT Indore Launches Drug Designing Course
IIT Indore has launched a certificate course in drug design, sponsored by the technical education quality improvement programme and MHRD. Students and faculties from different engineering colleges from MP, Uttarakhand, Gujarat, and Chhattisgarh to participate in the course.
On March 4, 2019, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Indore launched a short time certificate course in Drug design sponsored by theTechnical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP) and Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD). This initiative taken by IIT Indore will provide essential training and research prospects for drug designing using modern day technology and methods. The Drug Design Course in IIT Indore has been named ‘Tools and Techniques in Drug Design, Discovery and Delivery’ or TTDDDD.
Rahul Sharma, Media Coordinator of IIT Indore informed that not only the students, but even faculties from different states such as Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Uttarakhand are actively participating in the programme. He also added that the development of a drug from its initial stage to the final form takes 12-15 years of thorough research and hard work. The process is also very costly. The full development of a drug can cost $500 to $1000 million dollars which amounts to Rs.35,318 million to Rs. 70,636 million. (*According to USD to INR Exchange ratio as per 6th March 2019.)
The course covers the full circle of drug development from identifying and synthesizing the lead compound, taking it to the final stage by researching and identifying the state of the drug and minimising adverse effects. The pre-clinical stage is a very important part of testing the drug for its potential medical use.
The syllabus of this course will also cover the usage of Computer Aided Drug Developing (CADD) and use of Omics Technology for studying the mechanism and characteristics of a drug. Biotechnology and Nanotechnology to develop a drug is also one of the topics in the curriculum.

Apart from the drug designing course, IIT Indore has also launched a six-day course in ‘Characterization of Materials for Renewable and Sustainable Energy’ for knowledge of recyclable energy and its sustenance and growth among the aspirants. Roughly 40 participants from all over India are expected to attend this six-day course.
