IIT Kanpur Hosts Samsung Innovation Awards 2017

The seventh edition of Samsung Innovation Awards 2017 took place at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur recently. Samsung India organised the award ceremony in association with the Entrepreneurship Cell of IIT Kanpur. The major objective of Samsung Innovation Awards is to reward and recognise innovations that have the capability or potential to revolutionise day-to-day living and enable students to take their ideas to the next level.

Major Highlights of Samsung Innovation Awards 2017: -

• The team that won the first prize comprised of Rishabh Sahu, Kumar Shivang and Kshitij Jaggi. The team worked on a peer-to-peer financial transaction application through Blockchain Technology in a distributed environment.
• The team that bagged the second prize was ‘Insomniatec'. It included Sankalp Rastogi and Kaustubh Mundra who put forth a project, which uses an infrared camera coupled with computer vision technology. The speciality of this technology is that it detects the drowsiness in a vehicle driver while in driving and provides in-time alerts.
• Another project ‘Muskan Solid Waste’ bagged special mention award. Hari Shankar and Mewa Lal presented the project.

Chief Technology Officer of Samsung R & D, Dr. Aloknath presented the awards to the winners or winning teams. The winners bagged the cash prizes worth Rs. 2.5 lakh, while the five finalists received merit recognition from Samsung India.

Samsung Innovation Awards 2017 received a tremendous response. A total number of eight teams bagged the opportunity to present their ideas to the jury. The jury comprised of Dr. Aloknath and professors from IIT Kanpur. Samsung R & D Institute, located in Bangalore will engage with the award winners to further develop their innovations.
