IIT-Kanpur Signs MoU with New York University for Cyber Security
IIT-Kanpur signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with New York University for a period of seven years.
In the backdrop of increasing cyber domain frauds and cyber security threats all over the world, IIT Kanpur in collaboration with New York University (NYU) has come forward for building cyber security capabilities and also enhancing cooperation in the domain of research and innovation. Recently, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed for a period of seven years to make this endeavour turn into a reality between NYU's Tandon School of Engineering Centre for Cyber Security (NYU-CCS) and Centre for Cyber Security for Critical Infrastructure (IITK-CSC).

At present, two centres have been in cooperation from a couple of years, with a special focus on areas and activities like-
- Faculty visits
- Student internships
- Short term visits
- Cyber Security Awareness Week competition
Sandeep K. Shukla and Manindra Agrawal, professors and joint coordinators of IITK-CSC said that under the MoU, the relationship between the two centres has become official which will further promote closer cooperation. Both the centres would try to become internationally renowned and most important centres nationally and eventually contribute to keeping safe from electronic warfare and cyber attacks.

Both the Centres are expected to work in different areas like-
- Facilitate bilateral academic scientific relationships
- Cyber-attack prevention
- Develop cooperative research and teaching projects
- Work for security of cyber-physical systems in telecom and transportation
- Detection and mitigation of cyber attack
- Hold joint research and teaching workshops
- Bringing together faculties and junior scholars from both institutes
Besides that, the visiting students would work on specific research areas and engage in collaborative learning. The visiting faculties will also be involved in contributing to the research programmes and teaching works.
IIT-K in August 2016 had signed a MoU with Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) to increase its cyber domain security. Apart from that, the institute had also collaborated with Israel based Interdisciplinary Cyber Research Center (ICRC) of Tel Aviv University for building bilateral academic relationships and enhancing cooperative research.
