IIT Kharagpur Addresses Student Queries amid Demand to Postpone GATE 2022
IIT Kharagpur has released a notification regarding the future of the GATE 2022 examination after more than 23,000 petitioners sign an online petition to postpone this year's GATE examination due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases in India. Check details below.
With the rising number of voices in support of the postponement of the GATE 2022 examination due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases in India, a notification has been issued by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur. This IIT-K notification hinted towards the postponement of this year’s GATE examination. As of now, the GATE 2022 examination is scheduled to take place across various exam centres in India on the 05th, 06th, 12th and 13th February.
In this notification, the GATE conducting body, which is IIT Kharagpur for the academic year 2022-23, has prioritised the health and safety of the exam-takers. It also says that the official dates for this year’s GATE examination might change in accordance with the rising number of Omicron cases in India. In the rarest of circumstances, the GATE 2022 examination might be rescheduled or completely cancelled if this pandemic continues to take the situation beyond control.

Through this notification, IIT Kharagpur has also requested all the candidates to get vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus.
The COVID-19 cases in India have seen an exponential rise due to the dominant Omicron variant of the virus. India recorded around 2.68 lakh COVID positive cases during the last week. This had driven around 23,000 petitioners to sign an online petition to postpone the GATE 2022 examination. Students took to various social media platforms and raised their concerns.
