IIT Kharagpur Collaborates with Samsung to Set Up Digital Academy
- IIT Kharagpur and Samsung India will together launch a digital academy as a part of the company's corporate social responsibility.
- More than 100 B.Tech CSE students will be trained through the initiative.
Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur has signed a MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) with Samsung India to set up a digital campus on the institute’s premises. IIT Kharagpur’s Department of Computer Science and Engineering will host the Samsung Innovation Lab and train students on IoT (Internet of Things) with the help of Tinzen-based operating systems that are commonly used by the company in home appliances and mobile phones.
The network of computing devices that are embedded in objects of regular use for exchange and storage of information is called as IoT. The training in IoT will play a vital role in helping the students of IIT Kharagpur to acquire industry-relevant skills so that they are industry fit in future.

The digital academy on the campus of IIT Kharagpur will be set up by Samsung India as a part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). The motive of the company is to bridge the digital divide in India by imparting necessary skills to students on latest technology. Through this collaboration, IIT Kharagpur is expected to train 100 students in the next three years.
After signing the MoU with IIT Kharagpur on October 9, 2017, Managing Director of Samsung Research and Development Institute expressed that the company is proud to collaborate with IIT Kharagpur for helping students to utilise the latest and growing digital technology market, particularly Internet of Things, the future of connectivity.
Adding further, MD of Samsung R & D Institute pointed that the company was committed to working in the area of next-gen technology development.

Director of IIT Kharagpur mentioned that the partnership would be highly beneficial to students since they can develop skills associated with Artificial intelligence and IoT.
The duration of the course that will be taught at Digital Academy will be 14 months. The course will be delivered through classroom lectures, lab room sessions, assignments, mini projects and self-study projects.
