IIT Kharagpur Likely to Help HIDCO in Happy City Project
One of the officials associated with HIDCO revealed that a city or town could be considered as 'happy' in nature when all the citizens or residents commute and travel from one place to another within a less time without facing heavy traffic.
Centre of Excellence on Happiness of Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur is likely to help Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation or HIDCO in developing cities which are happiness quotient. The authorities of HIDCO have already contacted IIT-Kharagpur regarding the same. HIDCO is seeking new ideas from Centre of Excellence on Happiness, IIT-Kgp for developing cities where people can live happily.

A city or town can also be considered as happy in nature when it has separate zones for recreation and entertainment. The citizens or residents need to feel safe and secure in these cities. These cities also consist of Yoga and meditation centres, sports arena as well as feel-good look in public places.

One of the officials associated with Centre of Excellence on Happiness at IIT-Kgp explained that proper guidelines and planning are necessary for the institute to proceed with the project. If everything goes as per plan, the institute will send a team to make an assessment and conduct a survey to identify areas of improvement in New Town and make the township a happy place to live.
In a recently held international workshop, experts from various international universities and IIT-Kgp took part in it and discussed the ways to develop smart cities and development of future cities at New Town.
