IIT Kharagpur Introduces Scholarship Programme for SAARC Students
IIT Kharagpur is launching a dedicated full-time scholarship programme for SAARC students which is being funded by an institute alumnus based in the United States. Candidates of the UG, PG and doctorate levels can apply for the programme.
The top-rated engineering institute of the country, Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (IIT-Kgp) has recently announced that it will be launching an all-new full-scholarship programme for the students who belong to the SAARC countries which primarily includes Bangladesh, Nepal, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Bhutan. The new scholarship programme of IIT Kharagpur will be open to full-time students of the UG, PG and doctorate levels.
As a part of the programme, IIT Kharagpur aims at reaching to a variety of universities and embassies of the above-mentioned countries directly. Further, it also plans to seek help from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to boost its enrollment in the year 2019.
Interestingly, the launch of the scholarship programme at IIT Kharagpur is backed by funding from the alumnus of the institute itself. A US-based petrochemical industrialist Mr. Asoke Dey Sarkar has offered to fund the programme following which the first edition of this programme has also been named after him. The Asoke Dey Sarkar International Programme (ADSIP) will admit 10 students in the first batch and will provide funding for the participants' tuition fee, airfare, living expenses, local transportation, and medical insurance.
Mr. Baidurya Bhattacharya, who is the dean of International Relations at the premier institute, while elaborating on the launch of the IIT Kharagpur scholarship programme for SAARC students said that since SAARC nations have their heritage in common, the institute aims to learn about how the students of these nations are preparing to face new challenges, what are the new things that they are learning and how are they coming up with solutions to tackle different problems.

As far as the selection process for the IIT Kharagpur Scholarship Programme for SAARC students is concerned, the interested participants will be required to explore the different courses and research areas on which they would like to work. Alongside, they will also be required to identify experts at the institute who will be mentoring them. Applicants will also be required to appear for a video interview. Candidates who are shortlisted will be provided transcripts of the academic work along with the pedagogical and syllabus details.
