IIT-Kharagpur Signs MoU with IIEST & GNIDSR
Sardar Taranjit Singh, Managing Director, JIS Group Educational Initiatives explained that today, most of the people belonging to economically underprivileged sections suffer from oral and dental diseases.
Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with IIEST, Shibpur and Guru Nanak Institute of Dental Sciences and Research (GNIDSR) to promote interdisciplinary research in contemporary fields of oral healthcare.
Sardar Taranjit Singh, Managing Director, JIS Group Educational Initiatives explained that today, most of the people belonging to economically underprivileged sections suffer from oral and dental diseases. Some of the people also suffer from oral pre-cancer and cancer. However, there isn’t any breakthrough towards treatment and management of these malignant diseases.

So, GNIDSR has taken the issue into consideration and took the initiative to promote multidisciplinary research in areas like oral cancer and pre-cancer, tissue engineering, stem cells, implants and sensors and biomaterials. For this purpose, GNIDSR has collaborated with IIT-Kharagpur.
SK Bhattacharya, Deputy Director of IIT-Kharagpur, mentioned that the institute is planning to conduct advanced research in stem cells in future. Currently, the institute has been assigned responsibility to take cancer gnomonic and image analysis to the higher level.
Ajoy Roy, Director of IIEST Shibpur, explained that nowadays periodontal diseases and dental caries are the most common oral diseases which result in tooth loss and makes an individual orally and facially crippled.
He further added that Bio Sensors, Biomaterial and Tissue Engineering research would be of great help to manage dental caries and to fabricate cost effective artificial implants and prosthesis.
Recently, Infosys Foundation has also signed a MoU with IIT-Kharagpur to provide travel fund for the students who are invited to attend ‘Top International Conferences’.
