IIT Kharagpur to Work on Rural Development
IIT Kharagpur in collaboration with various NGOs will now be working on rural technology.
With the aim to improve the living conditions of people of the rural areas, the Indian Institute of Technology in Kharagpur has joined hands with various NGOs. By developing new technology, rural areas will be made better.

This aim of the institute will be met in the following ways:
- IIT Kharagpur will first familiarise themselves with the technological difficulties that the people living in the rural areas are facing.
- Once these are identified, new products and processes will be developed with the help of maximum participation by the people.
All of this will be conducted under the HRD Ministry's National Initiative for Design Innovation. IIT Kharagpur has received Rs. 10 crore funding for the same.
Under the programme, artisans and entrepreneurs will also be trained in workshops and demonstrations so that they can work on established technologies easily.

Also, the institute aims at coming up with inventions that are design driven pertaining to rural technology. For this, the institute is also collaborating with other institutes and organizations in the areas of design and innovations.
