IIT Kharagpur to Give Young Alumni Achiever Award: Filmmaker, Swiggy Co-Founder to Receive Awards
The Young Alumni Achiever Awards will be conferred to the former students of IIT Kharagpur on 18th August 2019. The institute will host the ceremony on its Foundation Day.
The Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur (IIT Kharagpur) is all set to award deserving candidates with the ‘Young Alumni Achiever’s Award’ this year. The co-founder of food aggregator Swiggy, Rahul Jaimini, and Nitin Babel, who is from the artificial intelligence (AI) firm niki.ai will also receive this honour.
The ‘Young Alumni Achiever’s Award’ will be given by IIT Kharagpur to 19 new-age entrepreneurs this year. The institute issued a statement on 16th August 2019, Friday, in which it announced that the ceremony will be held on 18th August 2019, Sunday. The event will commence after the Foundation Day celebrations and awards will be conferred on the former students.
The Dean of alumni affairs of IIT Kharagpur, Subrata Chattopadhyay, said that the graduates of IIT Kharagpur are leaving their indelible imprints on a wide range of diverse sectors which are not limited to just India but are spreading all around the world. He said that a younger generation of IIT Kharagpur is making a mark on diverse sectors and establishing new benchmarks in the major cities of the well as well as in the interiors of the nation. They are exploring all the fields from science to aesthetics and social welfare.

Among the 19 people who made it to the list of those who will receive the award are the founder of the Delhi- NCR chapter of NGO UPAY, Akanksha Swarnim, and the filmmaker Samarth Mahajan who has won acclaims in the national as well as international forums with his debut film ‘The Unreserved’.
UPAY is an initiative that provides free education to children who live in slum areas and on the streets. The Director of IIT Kharagpur, Sriman Kumar Bhattacharyya, said that the ‘Young Alumni Achiever’s Award’ is given to the alumni who are under the age of 40 and whose professionals contributions have been recognised widely.

The young and promising alumni of the institute who have shown outstanding achievements in their respective fields and have achieved success are awarded this honour to encourage them and promote their endeavours. IIT Kharagpur puts forth this extremely thoughtful effort to recognise and appreciate the tasks undertaken by its students.
