IIT Madras: Two Alumni and One Professor Endowed with the Padma Awards
Bhaskar Ramamurthy, IIT Madras Director, congratulated all of the three awardees. He stated that it is an immense pleasure for IIT Madras to convey that two of our alumni and a faculty member has been endowed with the Padma awards by the Government of India.
The two alumni members of Indian Institute of Technology, (IIT) Madras and one professor from the faculty members were endowed with the Padma awards. The alumni members who got the awards include Venu Srinivasan and Prem Watsa, while Professor Pradeep Thalappil was the awardee among the faculty members.
In context to this, Bhaskar Ramamurthy, IIT Madras Director, congratulated all of the three awardees. He stated that it is an immense pleasure for IIT Madras to convey that two of our alumni and a faculty member has been endowed with the Padma awards by the Government of India.

Among the awardees, Watsa and Venu Srinivasan are the founder chairman of Fairfax Financial Holdings and TVS Group respectively. On the other hand, Professor Thalappil is the professor of Chemistry at the institute.
This year, the Padma award has been awarded to a total of 141 citizens in India. Including in the list of awards, were a total of 7 Padma Vibhushan awards, 16 Padma Bhushan awards, and 118 Padma Shri Awards. Through Twitter, Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi also congratulated all the citizens who have been conferred the awards.

Other members among the awardees include architect Balkrishna Doshi, PV Sandhu the sportsperson, Manohar Parrikar, the former Goa Cheif Ministeanaut, Director Ekta Kapoor & Karan Johar, Singer Adnan Sami & Suresh Wadkar, Business Anand Mahindra and the famous mathematician Vashishtha Narayan Singh.
