IIT Madras Bags Spot in Top 250 of QS Ranking
While the other IITs are just in top 700.
Yesterday i.e. 6th September’ 16 the Quacquarelli Symonds Ranking popularly know as QS rankings were announced for 2016 to 2017. According to the new rankings, Indian Institute of Technology of Madras is in the top 250 global institutes. The ranking given to IIT, Madras was 249 which is 6 places above then the earlier ranking which was 254. IIT, Madras has been improving continuously from the last three years and it has shown the improvement in terms of ranking.

Except for IIT Madras no other IIT has improved its ranking but 8 other IITs managed to be in the top 700. At QS intelligence unit, Ben Sowter who is the Head of Research said that the reason behind this could be the following.
- India's relatively low numbers of PhD-qualified researchers
- India hiring and attracting fewer PhD-qualified researchers from abroad.

The HRD Ministry shared its views on the rankings and said that the ministry is working on policies that will help India attract more foreign student which will result in the betterment of the education system of India. The ministry also said that the ranks are not really that bad as most of the very famous institutes of german are ranked almost the same.
