More glory for the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) as IIT Madras and IIT Kanpur, some of the premier Indian institutions are now present in the top-50 in the latest Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) University Rankings Asia 2016.
IIT Madras and IIT Kanpur took a leap of 13 and 10 places, respectively, to make place for themselves in the list of top 50 universities’ rankings among Asian countries composed by global higher education analysts, QS.
IIT Madras was moved from the 56th position in 2015 to the 43rd position in 2016. IIT Kanpur, that ranked 58th in 2015 made it to the 48th place in 2016.
The two IITs are not the only Indian colleges that made it to the top-50 list of QS University Rankings Asia. Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore, IIT Bombay and IIT Delhi are the other institutes that have been part of the list.
Following are the Indian colleges that come under the Top-50 in QS University Rankings Asia 2016:

Amrita University and Andhra University also came down the list in 2016 and got placed at the 169th position and within the 301st-350th band respectively. University of Delhi and the University of Calcutta outdid their performance in 2016 and jumped 25 places to 66th position and 41 places to 108th position, respectively.
India ranks 5th among the 17 nations that contribute to the list. A total of 23 Indian Universities are named in the Top-50 QS University Rankings Asia 2016 while Taiwan has 34 universities, South Korea 54, Japan 72, and China 82. 11 Indian universities have also scored 100.0 for QS.
National University of Singapore and University of Hong Kong gave a consistent performance and were placed at the first and second position, respectively.
The QS University Rankings Asia lists the region’s 300 best universities and was expanded in 2016 to include 50 more universities. A new attribute was also added to the list that introduced staff with PhD. This was done to give an evaluation of the staff of the universities.
