New Masters Programme in Electric Vehicles to be Launched at IIT Madras

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has announced that it is launching a masters degree programme in electric vehicles and the enrolment will begin from January 2022 onwards. The electric vehicles masters programme will be an Interdisciplinary Dual Degree programme and only B.Tech students of IIT-M can enrol in it. Students currently in their 3rd year of any B. Tech or dual degree programme at IIT Madras can enrol; themselves in this IDDD programme. The initial batch strength of this programme is expected to be around 25 students.
According to an IIT Madras official, students enrolling in this IDDD programme of IIT Madras will acquire the desired skillsets that will help them land various jobs currently available in the growing EV industry such as Product & Portfolio Planning, Verification and Validation, Communication and Calibration, Vehicle Aggregate Engineering, EV Integration and many more.

Approximately 08 different departments of IIT Madras will be collaborating for this course which will impart the necessary skills to the students to engineer electric vehicles. To make sure the students have in-depth knowledge of each EV domain, special attention has been given to the content of the course.

The Program will be led by the Department of Engineering Design, but it will be executed collaboratively by several departments. IIT Madras wants to see additional programmes with varied structures in the eMobility area over the next few years, added the Head of the Department of Engineering Design, Professor T Asokan.
