IIT Madras Team Wins Second Season of Samsung E.D.G.E
- AthenaZ, a team from IIT Madras emerged as the winner of Samsung E.D.G.E grand finale.
- A total number of 10 teams reached national finals where NID Ahmedabad bagged the second place followed by IIM Lucknow.
The second season of Samsung India’s campus programme ‘Samsung E.D.G.E’ witnessed the participation of brightest students from popular institutes across the country. ‘AthenaZ’, a team from Indian Institute of Technology, Madras bagged the first spot at the national finals that took place in Gurgaon on December 01, 2017. National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, followed by Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow bagged the second and third place respectively.
This year, Samsung E.D.G.E witnessed a grand response with the participation of 790 teams, comprising of 2,370 students from 19 leading institutes across the country. The entire competition was spread over for three months. Students from diverse courses such as Masters of Social Work, Masters of Design, MBA and B.Tech were invited to take part in the competition. A zonal round was conducted to shortlist the teams for the national finals.

The winning team, i.e., ‘AthenaZ’ from IIT Madras received a cash prize of Rs. 3,00,000, and each member of the team received a Galaxy Note8 smartphone. The team from NID Ahmedabad that bagged the second place received a cash prize of Rs. 1,50,000 and the team from IIM Lucknow that bagged the third place received a cash prize of Rs. 75,000. A total number of ten teams reached the national finals of Samsung E.D.G.E. All the teams received Samsung vouchers worth Rs. 10,000.
Samsung E.D.G.E provides a unique opportunity for students to interact with the leadership team at Samsung. Through this competition, the students get an opportunity to work on real-world business problems and come up with outstanding solutions. The 10 teams that reached national finals this year worked on the following ideas: -
- Certification models and marketing
- Online skilling
- Designing devices for young single person-households
- Growth opportunities in smart cities
- Samsung’s intelligent interface Bixby

The winning team from IIT Madras worked on Samsung’s intelligent interface Bixby and impressed the jury members. IIM Lucknow team also worked on Bixby while NID Ahmedabad developed an innovative product that can make life better for single-person households.
IIT Madras emerged as the winner of Samsung E.D.G.E for the second consecutive time.
