IIT Madras Introduces Young Research Fellow Programme for Undergraduate Students

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras has introduced a Young Research Fellow (YRF) programme for undergraduate students. The new program has been launched by the institute in line to the Super-UROP program recently launched by Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). The students who are in 3rd year of their UG or dual degree program at IIT Madras or any other institute will be eligible to register for the YRF program.
The program will be of a one year duration and over 20 fellowships will be awarded in the first year of the program. Through the program, the students will get an opportunity to interact one-on-one with IIT professors for multi-disciplinary research projects. The students will also be attending a ‘career and life coaching’ (CLIC) programme which will be organised by the expert professional coaches and offered by a total of 1979 alumni. Moreover, the selected students will also be provided with a monthly allowance and an opportunity to present their research work at international conferences with travel support.

In context to the YRF program, the officials of IIT stated that the year-long research program will help the students to avail the opportunity of extensive scientific exploration. They further stated that the fellowship program will also enable the enrolled students to participate and execute research projects across the various inter-disciplinary departments.
