IIT Mandi Launches B.Tech Course in Data Science and Engineering
Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mandi is the first institute in the country to launch a B.Tech course in Data Science and Engineering. The new course at IIT Mandi will train students in Computer Science, Applied Statistics, Applied Mathematics etc.
The Indian Institute of Technology Mandi (IIT-M) has launched one of the first courses on Data Science and Engineering, as per a statement released by the institute. The Programme will be available as a B.Tech programme at IIT Mandi. The IIT Mandi B.Tech Course in Data Science and Engineering course will educate the students in the subjects of Applied Mathematics, Applied Science, Computer Science and Machine Learning.
The programme will be available for the students to pursue from the next academic year of 2019-20. B.Tech Data Science and Engineering will be provided to the students in a joint effort by the School of Computing and Electrical Engineering along with the School of Basic Sciences, according to the statement released by IIT Mandi.

According to Prof Timothy A Gonsalves, the Director of IIT Mandi, the B.Tech programme has been designed to tutor the students in learning how to compile, process and study the data in large quantities. The faculty responsible for teaching the course will also make the students understand how to see the patterns that come from studying the data as well as be able to make observations that can relay some actions in turn.

IIT Mandi has launched B.Tech Data Science and Engineering along with two other new programmes in both the undergraduate and postgraduate level. The other courses include B.Tech in Engineering Physics along with a Dual Degree Programme, viz. B.Tech-M.Tech in Bioengineering. These Programmes will be available to the aspirants from the next academic year which will begin from August of 2019.
