IIT & NIT Patna to Provide Technical Expertise to Patna Municipal Corporation
Abhishek Singh, Municipal Commissioner of Patna, revealed that the proposal regarding the same would be tabled at a board meeting in February.
National Institute of Technology and Indian Institute of Technology, Patna and few more technical institutions across the city will provide technical expertise to the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC). For this purpose, PMC will engage students of these technical institutions as interns.
Abhishek Singh, Municipal Commissioner of Patna, revealed that the proposal regarding the same would be tabled at a board meeting in February. One of the officials indicated that if this proposal comes into effect, Patna will become the first city to in the country to get technical assistance from students.

The main objective of PMC is to transform Patna into a smart city by using the technical expertise of students. Students of both IIT and NIT can use the technology in the civic works which they learn during the course. Through this initiative, the students will be asked to design a model which will be implemented in PMC work.
However, Abhishek Singh stated that the municipal corporation lacks workforce and engaging students to mitigate the shortage of workforce is the only solution. Through this initiative, students will be involved in five particular works of PMC.

He further added that students would be involved in engineering works, sanitation-related works, drinking water, accountancy and solid waste management. A total number of two to three students will be engaged in each category for six weeks.
Some of the students hailed the decision taken by PMC. The municipal commission is also planning to install 1,000 dustbins in the city.
