IIT Placements 2019: Students Choose Startups Over High-Paying Jobs
Preplacement offers at IITs have witnessed an increase this year and more than 1,200 preplacement offers were made across 23 IITs. While IIT Delhi got 186 offers, IIT Madras got 167 offers.
Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) have recently concluded the first phase of recruitment where a lot of companies visited to get hold of the new graduates. They even offered a good salary package. However, it should be noted that a huge chunk of IIT graduates rejected offers to join startups and new-age tech companies.
A final-year B.TechIIT Madras student, Ashutosh Kumar landed a job with an attractive salary from an MNC which he declined to come on board with ePlane.ai. The startup has been founded by Ashutosh's senior Pranjal Mehta. The 21-year old joined his senior when he was in his first year at IIT and as the startup was developing on campus, Kumar would visit the lab to work with Mehta.

To this, Ashutosh said that although the salaries of both have a huge difference, he is open to an opportunity that can just help him with basic necessities for now. International companies like Micron, SMS DataTech, Uber, Cohesity, Mercari, Optiver, Microsoft, Sony, ANZ, etc. also offered great job opportunities to the IIT students.

Preplacement offers have risen this year and more than 1,200 preplacement offers were made across 23 IITs. While IIT Delhi got 186 offers, IIT Madras got 167. Startups like Flipkart, Ola, Byju's also turned up in the placement drives. IITs have now started developing a better relationship with startups in recent years.
The top IIT graduates are also able to find impressive jobs at home and Global in-house centers also known as MNC R&D centers have become important campus recruiters.
