IIT Roorkee Launches Business Incubator Extension Centre at Greater Noida
- IIT Roorkee New Extension Centre of TIDES was established in Greater Noida. The responsibility of the Extension Centre is to incubate the start-ups at IIT Roorkee.
Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee) has inaugurated an Extension Centre of its Business Incubator, i.e., TIDES (Technology Innovation and Development of Entrepreneurship Support) at Greater Noida. The responsibility of the Extension Centre is to incubate the start-ups at IIT Roorkee. The main reason for setting up the Extension Centre of TIDES at Greater Noida is that it is the fastest growing start-up ecosystems in the country. Start-Up India programme of Indian Government is supporting the TIDES initiative at IIT Roorkee.
NSTEDB (National Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board), Ministry of Electronics and Department of Science and Technology and other agencies granted Rs. 12 crores funding for TIDES. Associate Head of NSTEDB, Dr. Anita Gupta was the Chief Guest of the inaugural ceremony.

Initially, the TIDES Extension Centre at Greater Noida will incubate three start-ups with 15 team members working and staying in the extension centre. IIT Roorkee will increase the capacity of the new extension centre soon.
Dr, Anita Gupta congratulated IIT Roorkee for setting up an Extension Centre in Greater Noida. Being the first and oldest technical institute in India, IIT Roorkee inculcates entrepreneurial culture in students through its outstanding curriculum. TIDES is a unique platform for young entrepreneurs to accelerate their ideas into a successful start-up with appropriate guidance and marketing strategy. Today, establishing a start-up is a lucrative career option as students turn into job creators instead of job seekers, she highlighted.

Director of IIT Roorkee, Professor Arjit K Chaturvedi pointed out that NCR was the mist developed entrepreneur hubs in India. The state-of-the-art infrastructure at TIDES will help students in turning out their ideas into start-ups. In the last three years, TIDES has interacted with more than 100 start-ups. So far, more than 20 start-ups were offered incubation support with a cumulative seed funding of Rs. 1.2 crore, he concluded.
