JEE Advanced 2018 Supplementary Merit List Out: 31,980 Students Eligible for Admission
- As per the direction of HRD Ministry, IIT Kanpur has issued supplementary merit list for the admission to B.Tech courses in IITs.
- The supplementary merit list is released separately for each category and each discipline.
In an unexpected move, the Ministry of Human Resource Development has directed IITs (Indian Institutes of Technology) to issue a supplementary merit list for the admission to B.Tech courses this year. An official direction was made to IITs in this regard on June 13, 2018, and Director of IIT Kanpur confirmed the same.
As per the directions of HRD Ministry, IIT Kanpur has released a supplementary merit list with the total number of candidates qualified JEE Advanced 2018, which is twice the total number of B.Tech seats available in the premier institutes. The supplementary merit list is released separately for each category and each discipline.
With the issue of supplementary merit list, 31,980 students secured eligibility for the admission to B.Tech courses at IITs. As per the extended merit list, the number of candidates eligible for the admission on the basis of JEE Advanced score in each category has been increased. Candidates whose name is featured in the extended merit list can also exercise the options along with the other candidates from June 15, 2018.

This year, most of the aspirants expected a decline in the cut-offs for B.Tech courses at IITs. However, in an emergency meeting that took place on June 13, 2018, the Joint Admission Board (JAB) did not favour the reduction in the cut-offs this year.

Compared to the previous year, the total number of candidates cleared JEE Advanced 2018 was very low. This year, only 18,138 candidates cleared the exam, while close to 53,000 candidates cracked JEE Advanced last year. Many JEE Main qualifiers did not apply for the next stage of examination, which is also a reason for the decline the number of JEE Advanced qualifiers.
