IIT Tirupati to Get Permanent Campus by 2020
- A grant of Rs. 1070 crore has been approved by the Union Cabinet for the permanent campus of IIT Tirupati.
- The new campus will be constructed by 2020 and it will accommodate close to 2,500 students by 2024.
Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Tirupati, which has been functioning from a temporary campus, will get permanent campus by 2020. Director of IIT Tirupati, Mr. K Satyanaryana revealed that the Union Cabinet had approved Rs. 1,070 crore for the construction of the permanent campus and the approval was made for the three financial years (2017-2020).
Currently, the authorities are planning the construction of the campus and an architect has been appointed for this purpose. Sustainable technologies will be employed or accumulated in the development of the permanent campus, the Director added.

About IIT Tirupati Campus: -
- The construction of permanent campus will take place at Merlapaka Village, located near Venkatagiri Highway (Tirupati).
- By 2018, sports facilities, laboratories and hostel facility for 600 students will be developed at transit campus.
- On the other hand, classrooms that can accommodate 1,200 students will be ready by 2020.
- Full-scale development will be ensured by 2024.
- After the full-scale development, the campus of IIT Tirupati will accommodate 2,500 students.

On November 5, 2017, students of IIT Tirupati gathered at Ramanuja Circle early in the morning to take part in ‘Run for Unit (Unity Run)’ as a part of weeklong ‘Rashtriya Ekta Divas’. Faculty members, sports enthusiasts and a large number of students joined the 5 Km- long rally. Director of IIT Hyderabad and MCT Commissioner flagged off the unity run. Digital poster and essay writing competitions were conducted for the students as a part of ‘Rashtriya Ekta Divas'.
