IITians have to Focus on Innovation: Prakash Javadekar
He expressed his happiness that 7 out of 10 IITians are working in the country instead of going abroad.
In an interaction with the students at IIT Delhi, HRD Minster, Prakash Javadekar opined that the country can reach the higher levels of prosperity if the IITians focus on innovation. He expressed his concern over the quality of research.

He mentioned that IITs, NITs, IIScs are the temples of modern India and pointed that Indian Institutions do not make even to the top 200 in global rankings. Once upon a time, 25 percent of world trade was contributed by India and today we are not contributing even one percent of world trade. This can be achieved only through continuous innovation. The past glory cannot be recollected.

He also opined that during those days people were up to date. He gave the example of Columbus who reached America while trying to find India. He said that the HRD Ministry is going to take up new programmes to place IITs in the global best institutions. For this purpose, the quality of research must be improved. The proportion of faculties and foreign students is required.

He explained the initiatives that the HRD Ministry is planning to take. He mentioned that Rs. 1000 crore will be put in for IITs under IMPRINT programme. Various schemes will be implemented to encourage startups. He also promised the officials that he would look into CSR funds and the issue related through which CSR funds can be brought to IITs. He expressed his happiness that 7 out of 10 IITians are working in the country instead of going abroad.
He also took suggestions from the students regarding the New Education Policy and mentioned that quality, accountability, availability and affordability are the key aspects of education in the country.
