IITs & IIMs to Adopt Villages to Formulate Development Strategies
Under 'Unnat Bharat' programme, a Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between Secretaries of HRD Ministry, Rural Development and Panchayat Raj.
Premier institutes like IITs or Indian Institutes of Technology and IIMs or Indian Institutes of Management are going to adopt village clusters and carry out field study. The premier institutes will come up with developmental solutions after conducting the field study. District authorities might implement these developmental strategies under an initiative which is planned by the Central government.
Under 'Unnat Bharat' programme, a Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between Secretaries of HRD Ministry, Rural Development and Panchayat Raj. The motive of the programme is to connect rural development processes with knowledge development institutions which can be made possible only through the adoption of village clusters.

In the first phase, the programme will be implemented in 92 districts. As per the announcement that was stated by the HRD Ministry, all the higher education institutions across the country can adopt a cluster of five panchayats only after holding consultations with the District Collectors. The students can carry out a field study in the village. The institutions of higher learning will participate in the preparation and conceptualization of community-level and household-level development plans along with panchayat raj and rural development personnel.

Premier institutes like IITs & IIMs will play a significant role in providing inputs and suggesting innovative solutions to various issues faced by people in the villages which include energy security, basic living amenities and infrastructure as well as environment security. The Ministry of Gram Panchayat will play a major role in facilitating the involvement of higher learning institutions in the preparation of Gram Panchayat Development Plan (GPDP) and ensure operational tie-up between local bodies and educational institutions.
