IITs Placements Should Not be Affected due to Covoid-19 Outbreak: HRD Minister
Union HRD Minister has directed the IITs to ensure no dip in placements record, and a task force has to be set up to ensure speedy placement process this year.
The Union Minister of Human Resource Development, Mr. Ramesh Pokhriyal directed IITs that the placements at the respective institutes should not be affected due to COVID-19 outbreak. He convened a video conference with the heads of 23 IITs and directed them to set up a task force so that the placement season that happens in April every year should not be stalled or postponed.
Adding further, Mr. Ramesh Pokhriyal indicated that the placement records of IITs should not dip due to the ongoing situation, and the task force, which will be set up must come with measures to ensure placements this year. On the other hand, the academic calendar of IITs must be prepared in a way where students should not lose summer or winter internships, he directed.
HRD Minister directed the IITs to address the mental-health related challenges of students. A helpline should be set up to address such issues of students, and the task force that will be set up must have psychologists to handle students’ mental health issues. Students staying at hostels of IITs during this lockdown period must be taken care of, he directed.

The academic activities at all IITs across the country have been put on hold until April 14, 2020, due to the Coronavirus outbreak. All the exams that are scheduled to be conducted have been postponed, and these institutes are expected to resume classes after April 15.
