Premier IITs are not limiting their students to only India. To get more foreign students on campus, the premier IITs are planning to hold entrance tests for admissions to undergraduate and postgraduate courses abroad as well.
According to the plan, IIT entrance tests are likely to be conducted in eight other countries for foreign nationals.
This matter has been brought to light by the ministry of human resources and development and have decided the same in a recent meeting, said an official.
Both JEE and GATE will be conducted in foreign countries from the net academic year.
The test will be administered by IITs but providing the seats to foreign students will not affect the seats available for Indian students, said an official.
To boost international ranking, the government as well as the IITs are keen on having more foreign students join the campus.
