IITs to Conduct Entrance Exams in Kathmandu: Pranab Mukherjee

He felt delighted to announce that the Nepali students would have an opportunity to pursue graduate and postgraduate courses in Indian Institutes of Technology on a regular basis from the next academic session, i.e., 2017.

President Pranab Mukherjee mentioned that Indian Institutes of Technology would hold entrance exams in Kathmandu from next year. He made this announcement at a seminar which was conducted by Neeti Anusandan Pratisthan Nepal and India Foundation at Kathmandu on November 3, 2016. He spoke on ‘Nepal and India: Exploring New Vistas’.

On this occasion, he stated that India and Nepal have enjoyed a long tradition of academic and student exchanges. He expressed that India would be grateful to help Nepal with its human resource development. The Government of India has been offering around 250 scholarships annually for government and non-government employees of Nepal for training in technical institutes in India. He pointed that India has been granting around 3,000 scholarships to Nepalese students every year.

He indicated that India has recognised the importance of water resources in the accelerated development in Nepal. For this purpose, the government is providing postgraduate scholarships for courses in water resources management and hydel power at Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee.

He felt delighted to announce that the Nepali students would have an opportunity to pursue graduate and postgraduate courses in Indian Institutes of Technology on a regular basis from the next academic session, i.e., 2017. In order to fulfill that, IITs will hold entrance examinations for Nepali students. The aspirants can take the entrance exam in Kathmandu itself.

He concluded that Nepal is blessed with young people who are known for their strong spirit of enterprise, entrepreneurship and dynamism.
