IITs to Include Humanities in the Curriculum: Prakash Javadekar
He felt happy that the education pattern has been undergoing positive changes and it is necessary to manage these changes to improve the overall development of the country.
Prakash Javadekar, Minister of Human Resource and Development, announced that premier institutes, i.e., Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) will include Humanities as a subject in the curriculum soon. It is highly essential for the budding engineerings to have a subject like Humanities for their overall understanding and development.
Javadekar also spoke about the current education scenario in the country. He felt happy that the education pattern has been undergoing positive changes. He reiterated that it is necessary to manage these changes to improve the all-round development of the country. He suggested that there must be some changes in the framework of Right to Education (RTE) for effective implementation.

He further added that the participation of the students in education has increased which is giving a boost to the central government for reaching its vision towards educating all. He indicated that the education must not be mixed with politics and separate emphasis must be given to education.
He also cited the findings of various surveys which were conducted to find the situation of education and educational institutes in India. The government and HRD Ministry will consider these facts or findings and develop the education in a better way.

Javadekar indicated remedial measures for the issues which were highlighted in the surveys. They are:-
- The education levels of teachers who are employed in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh is not satisfactory. Most of the teachers do not know how to spell or read properly. With an objective to mitigate the issue, the HRD Ministry will conduct teacher training programmes and also motivate them through various means.
- Javadekar suggested that the schools must adopt a three-language formula and bring uniformity across the country.
- The ministry will soon resolve the issue of appointment of faculty members at Delhi University.
- He also suggested that implementation of Yoga at school level is necessary to improve the mental ability of the students.
- IITs have to include Humanities as a subject in their curriculum so that the students will understand the Indian culture and traditions.
