IITs to Launch Inter-Campus Exchange Programme
The idea of launching inter-campus exchange programme at IIT was proposed a few years ago. Finally, the idea is becoming a reality and it is the first time that IITs are coming together for an academic purpose of this kind.
Three older IITs across of the country that include Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi and Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee are going to launch an inter-campus exchange programme from the autumn semester for the year 2017-18. The plan is similar to the foreign exchange programme where students pursue one or two semesters in a foreign university or institute. In the same way, the students of these three IITs will be spending a semester at any of the institutes as they wish.

During the initial year, only two students from the institute will be allowed to travel and pursue a semester in any of the above-mentioned IITs. However, the institutes will allow four incoming and four outgoing students in the subsequent years. The students who will be selected under this programme need to pay the semester fee at the host institute. The students need to bear the living expenses and the host institutes will not incur these expenses.

Recently, Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur also launched Semester Away programme where the students of the institute will have the choice to pursue one or two semesters in any of the foreign universities. The institute will incur the tuition fee of the student if it has a MoU with the foreign university.
