Delhi University has tightened security on its campus and in hostels, with Holi around the corner. This is being done to ensure no “untoward incident” takes place during celebrations.
An official communication sent from the varsity’s Registrar office read: “Delhi University is committed to ensuring safety and security for everyone on the campus. Therefore, steps have been initiated towards elaborate internal and external security arrangements on campus, hostels and colleges to counter any possible act of hooliganism or rowdy conduct in the name of Holi, particularly those targeting women students.”
The entire staff of the university along with the law and order authorities, Proctorial Staff, Dean Students' Welfare office and security personnel, will make sure that no “hooliganism” happens in the name of celebrations.
The university is against any those found indulging in any such activity and will take action against them. “Strictest possible disciplinary action will be taken to curb any act of hooliganism and disturbance during Holi under the provisions of Sexual Harassment at Work Place Act, 2013,” the statement said.
The law enforcement agencies along with Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) have also assured full co-operation with the university officials to ensure a safe and peaceful Holi.
Delhi University has in the last few years strengthened security arrangements in the campus around Holi, as the campus is not a closed one and students are more exposed to outsiders.
Women students have often complained that outsiders try to harass them while they are walking on the roads during the Holi week.
