Independence Day 2023: With the completion of 76 years of Independence, India will be celebrating its 77th Independence Day 2023, on August 15, 2023. While it is widely known that this independence is a gift of our ancestors’ courage and struggle, it cannot be neglected that education has played an important role in the Indian Freedom Struggle. Students shall know about the impact of education on the freedom struggle and its eventual growth changing the lives of all the young people of the country. In the mid-18th century when the Britishers entered India with a purpose to rule, with trade and commerce, India was not prepared enough to fight back for its rights.
As George Washington Carver aptly quoted," Education is the key to unlock the golden door of freedom".
Development starts with education. The British therefore established a number of educational institutes in India, with an English-medium education system. This greatly aided in the advancement of knowledge and helped establish the groundwork for the Indian Freedom Struggle. It became simpler for Indians to grasp and understand British laws, their effects, and also to make British people aware of their demands after they began speaking, reading, and writing in English. The British Council's recommended curriculum covered subjects like democracy, secularism, communism, and other related topics. Through the students nationwide who were pursuing higher education, these concepts inspired society.

Indians' education encouraged them to question the British with confidence and paved the way for their independence. The leaders placed a focus on the "Economic Impact of British Rule" and came to the conclusion that the British were depleting India's wealth through taxes and other methods. Without education, Indian leaders might not have been able to speak out against Britain.

Since Independence, India has worked tirelessly to educate the young and to motivate the elderly to send their children to schools and colleges. India has also incorporated the “Right to Education” in the Indian Constitution under Article 21A, adding “free and compulsory” for the children of the age of six to fourteen years. So, as the next generation of the country, each and every student should be aware and ready to grow with the help of education and take the stakes of the country as one of the super nations in the world.
