India Failed to Produce a Nobel Laureate after 1930: Pranab Mukherjee

President of India Pranab Mukherjee expressed his disappointment over the fewer developments in academia. He emphasized that Indian universities must give more importance to research and innovation. There is also a need to create an ambience which will help to produce more Nobel laureates. He indicated that he has been stressing upon the Indian universities to lay emphasis on innovation and research almost like a parrot. Some of the developments that are taking place in academia are not up to the mark.

He further indicated that IITs and NITs are the best technical institutions in the world and most of them are recording 100 percent placements every year. However, they are failing to secure a spot in world rankings. He expressed his concern over the fact that there is no use of selling our top brains to multinational companies which work for promoting and advancing their sales. Instead, Indian universities and premier institutes need to engage these talent students in innovation and research. India failed to produce a Nobel laureate after 1930. It has been more than 80 years since C.V. Raman received the Nobel Prize for his research work.

He pointed that India is blessed with talented individuals but they are not properly tuned. If Indian varsities and premier institutes provide proper motivation to pursue research and innovation, the country will prosper. Not only that, Indian universities and premier institutes will bag a top spot in world rankings. Innovative ideas and solutions are essential to produce more Nobel laureates. To make that possible, Indian varsities need to create an ambience for boosting research and innovation.
