India's First Railway University in Gujarat Dedicated to Nation
The National Rail and Transportation Institute (NRTI) in Vadodara, Gujarat aims to introduce Master's courses in areas such as Transport Systems Engineering, Transport Policy and Economics and Transportation and Systems Design from 2019-20 academic session.
India’s first Railway University, which offers its students professional courses in technology and management of transportation networks, is in news once again for all the right reasons. On 15th December 2018, India’s Railway Minister, Piyush Vedprakash Goyal along with the Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani dedicated the National Rail and Transportation Institute (NRTI), in Vadodara, Gujarat to the nation.
India's first Railway University, which happens to be the third of its kind in the world after Russia and China, had about 103 students from 20 states in its undergraduate programmes when it opened its doors in September 2018.

The two fully-residential undergraduate courses offered to students are BBA in Transportation Management and B.Sc in Transportation Technology. Now, the University has plans to introduce Master's courses in Transport Systems Engineering, Transportation and Systems Design, Transport Policy and Economics, etc. from academic session 2019-20.
An official said that this is a big step and a matter of great pride that a unique institute offering a variety of courses has been dedicated to the nation.
At NRTI, Vadodara, admission has been provided to 41 students in BBA (Transportation Management) programme, while 62 students have been given admission in B.Sc (Transportation Technology) programme.

At Pipaliya village in Waghodiya Taluka, District Vadodara, 110 acres (approx) of land has been identified for the university and Rs 421 crores have been sanctioned by the Ministry of Railways for next five years for the project. Additionally, acquisition of the land from the Government of Gujarat is underway and the master plan of the new campus is yet to be finalised.
