Indian Universities Should be Among Top 100 in Global Rankings: Narendra Modi
He urged the students to participate in sports actively and aim for a gold medal in Tokyo Olympics in 2020.
Addressing the students at the centenary celebrations of Karnataka Lingayat Education Society (KLES), Belagavi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made an appeal to all the universities in the country to aspire to be among the top 100 in global rankings.
He revealed that special economic assistance would be provided to ten public and ten private universities which come forward and take a pledge to make a place for themselves in the top 100 universities in the world. These universities will be given relaxation from seeking various approvals, and there will be an open field for them. He expressed his concern over the fact that no Indian university is among the world’s top 100 universities.

He urged the students to participate in sports actively and aim for a gold medal in Tokyo Olympics 2020. He indicated that there should be some gold medals from KLES in Tokyo Olympics.
He congratulated KLES for completing 100 years and mentioned that nowadays neither political organisations nor families last for a 100 years, and it is only the educational institutions which last long.
Narendra Modi has tweeted that it is the responsibility of the youth to take India to new heights by giving more importance to research and innovation. Hence, to make this possible India needs skilled youth.

In the Union Budget which had been announced earlier this year, the government had promised to enable regulatory architecture for ten public and ten private universities to help them emerge as world-class teaching institutions. For this purpose, Rs. 1,000 crore was also set aside for higher education financing during the budget.
