Indian Universities to Offer Courses Run by Foreign Varsities
One of the officials of NAAC revealed that the Indian varsities need to obtain a Certificate of Competence issued by NAAC to run such programmes.
Here is a good news for the students who wish to study programmes offered by foreign universities without visiting them. The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) will soon permit the Indian Universities to collaborate with foreign varsities to offer academic and research programmes. These courses are likely to commence from the next academic session.
One of the officials of NAAC revealed that the Indian varsities need to obtain a Certificate of Competence issued by NAAC to run such programmes. NAAC is an autonomous body in India which gives grades to the institutes on the basis of certain important parameters.

He further added that the institutes need to raise funds and ensure future sustainability in the market if they have plans to collaborate with foreign varsities and to offer academic programmes. Additionally, these institutes may get funds from the government in the long run as per their ranking and performance.
On the other hand, Indian institutes or varsities which offer technical and professional courses in various fields are issued Certificate of Competence to collaborate with foreign varsities. It means, the institutes which offer engineering and hospitality courses will be allowed to collaborate with foreign varsities. Other institutes which offer non-professional and general courses will not be allowed to do the same.

One of the senior officials of UGC indicated that the main objective of the government is to impart better education and boost global rankings. On the other hand, the government’s plan is to promote research on a large scale, and it is possible only with foreign tie-ups. Therefore, the government has taken the initiative to collaborate with foreign varsities.
