India’s First Aviation University to be Inaugurated on August 18 in Uttar Pradesh
- India’s first aviation university named as Rajiv Gandhi National Aviation University (RGNAU).
- The varsity will function under the control of Civil Aviation Ministry.
- Retired Air Vice Marshal, Mr. Nalin Tandon has been appointed as its VC.
The inauguration ceremony of India’s first aviation university in Uttar Pradesh will take place on August 18, 2017. The aviation university is located in Fursatganj (Rae Bareli district) of Uttar Pradesh. Mr. Ashok Gajapathi Raju, Civil Aviation Minister, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Mr. Yogi Adityanath and Congress Vice President, Mr. Rahul Gandhi are expected to take part in the inaugural ceremony.
India’s first aviation university has been named as Rajiv Gandhi National Aviation University (RGNAU). The major objective of RGNAU is to promote aviation education, teaching, training and research. The varsity will function under the control of Civil Aviation Ministry. Retired Air Vice Marshal, Mr. Nalin Tandon has been appointed as the Vice Chancellor of RGNAU.

According to the plan, RGNAU will launch its flagship programme in 2018. Various management development programmes are also part of the plan which will be launched in the subsequent years. A proposal was made in the year 2013 to set up RGNAU to which the Union Cabinet gave its assent. A Bill named ‘Rajiv Gandhi National Aviation University Bill 2013’ had also received the assent of President of India on September 19, 2013. Around 26.35 acres of land was identified for the construction of university during the first phase, i.e., 2013-14 to 2018-19.

Rajiv Gandhi National Aviation University has also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with GMR Aviation Academy for offering Joint Postgraduate Diploma in Airport Operations/ Aviation. The programme will be offered to meet the demands of skilled workforce in the aviation industry. The varsity is also planning to launch an MBA in Aviation Management in future. A B.Sc (Hons) programme in Aircraft Management will also be offered by the varsity.
