On Saturday, ‘Jharkhand Raksha Shakti University’, India’s third defence University opened in Jharkhand. Jharkhand is the third state to open a defence university after Gujarat and Rajasthan. The University offers latest courses of defence to develop professional manpower in the field of security science and management to cope with the threat of internal and external security, terrorism, economic offences and cyber-crime.
Degree and diploma courses will be made available for the students to get jobs in police, military and security organizations. The varsity, chief minister Raghubar Das announced that the University will be operational from June-July in 2016-17. "The classes would begin at a rented building and later shift to the permanent campus when it is ready," Das said.
The foundation stone was laid by defence minister Manohar Parrikar during his Ranchi tour. The building construction of the university, to come up in Ranchi's vicinity, is expected to take around two years. The student capacity of the University will be 300-500. ThE Jharkhand government plans to equip it with internet, central library, gym, yoga centre, drill/parade ground and other top of the line facilities too.
