Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) to be Covered Under Education Board
The examination system of ITI will be put under the vertical of an education board and ITI will have an equivalent of matriculation.
The examination system of Industrial Training Institutes or ITIs will be put under a separate vertical of an education board. The ITIs will be an equivalent of matriculation and higher secondary education certificates exam, disclosed Rajiv Pratap Rudy who is the Union Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship at Gandhinagar in Gujarat.
Additionally, he also mentioned that the students will be given two more subjects under the curriculum so that they do not have to wander about for certifications, whatsoever. He made this announcement while speaking at a seminar on Skilling and Human Capital at the 8th Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit.

ITIs impart training on vocational skills in the following areas such as -
- Draughtsman
- Trainer
- Machinist
- Wireman
To improve the quality of ITI education, the present Central Government moved the Directorate General of Training (DGT) from the Ministry of Labour to that of Ministry of Skill and Entrepreneurship.
The minister further revealed that more than 23 lakh students who passed out of Industrial Training Institutes were not qualified for matriculation certificates. Now the Government has planned a small bridge course exam for these 23 lakhs students so that they qualify for matriculation and higher secondary boards.

Commenting on the India's skilled workforce at 3.5 percent as brought out by National Sample Survey Organisation, the minister opposed the survey and said he would speak to the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation and insist on the information on ingredients of sampling of skills. He was not convinced with the process of the survey.
The government has, for the first time, created a National Skills Qualification Framework so as to offer skills in the short-term courses. There is a demand of the industry ready professionals, on one hand, however, on the other hand, there is no skilled workforce.
