Infosys Foundation Signs Rs. 5 Crore MoU with IISc Bengaluru to Broaden Research
- A research grant worth Rs. 5 crore has been provided by Infosys Foundation to Indian Institute of Science (IISc) through a MoU aimed at curbing infectious diseases.
- Infosys has also supported research in healthcare, rural development, education etc. in the past.
In a significant development, Infosys Foundation has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) worth Rs. 5 crore with the Bangalore (now Bengaluru) based Indian Institute of Science (IISc) with an objective to broaden research activities and enhance infrastructure at the Centre for Infectious Diseases Research (CIDR).
Through this collaboration, Infosys Foundation is aiming to set milestones in the field of research of infectious diseases. The major focus will be on motivating the researchers to carry out innovative studies on the subject and further train them to bring in awareness about infectious diseases. The funds worth Rs. 5 crore from the Infosys Foundation will ultimately benefit 250 students and a total of 25 faculty members of IISc Bangalore.

IISc is a popular destination that encourages students from the engineering and science disciplines to take up in-depth research work that can result in master breakthroughs beneficial for the well-being of the community and society at large. The collaboration between IISc and Infosys Foundation will facilitate an interdisciplinary approach for developing new drug targets, novel diagnostic tools and drug delivery systems.
Apart from this, IISc also recently signed a Memorandum of Agreement with the Ministry to Water Resources to carry out research on groundwater resources in specific regions of Karnataka that will aim at developing new strategies to improve groundwater resources.

Infosys Foundation was established in the year 1996 to support programmes that are central to areas such as healthcare, rural development, education, destitute care and arts and culture. The foundation has also, in the past, introduced a variety of programmes in the above-mentioned fields in states like West Bengal, Punjab, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Bihar, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Orissa, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan and Uttaranchal.
