Entries Open for International Design Competition - James Dyson Award
Students from engineering colleges across 27 countries including India will be a part of the James Dyson award, and the winning student will get an award worth £30,000.
To encourage innovative and entrepreneurial students and recent graduates to design something which can solve a real problem, the James Dyson Foundation has announced that entries are open for the 2019 edition of the award. The online application process for the same will end on July 11, 2019.
Engineering college students from 27 countries including India will participate in the James Dyson award, and compete for this prestigious award. This award has its 15th anniversary globally this year, and it’s the third anniversary in India, which since 2004 has led engineers to solve the problems which will have an impact on their future.
The winning student will get an award worth £30,000 which includes £5,000 for the winner’s university. Two international runners-up will get £5,000 and each national winner will get £2,000.

James Dyson Award Eligibility Criteria 2019
The eligibility criteria for this award is as follows:
- Applicants must have within the last four years studied at least one semester in a UG or graduate design related or engineering course in a particular university or country which is a part of the James Dyson award.
- The same rule applies for team entries and in addition to it, one team member must have studied an eligible subject.
- The 2018 award winners were Nicolas Orellana of Chile and Yaseen Noorani from Kenya for their design ‘Urban wind turbine’. After studying NASA’s Mars Tumbleweed Rover, Nicolas and his student Yaseen found out how cities could benefit from this technology to generate electricity.
- Last year, there were about 100 entries which were received from India for the international award with talented people such as Rituparna Guha and Amit Kumar, masters of design students at IIT Delhi who had designed a wheelchair for shifting the users from wheelchairs to other mediums. They qualified amongst the three entries from India which were shortlisted and sent to the international pool
