Introduce PG Students to Super Specialities: MCI
MCI has directed PG medical colleges conduct orientation programme so that the students can exposure about super speciality streams such as general medicine, neurology, urology, nephrology, cardiology etc.
In an effort to enhance the medical skills of the young doctors studying PG courses such as ad MD and MS, Medical Council of India has directed PG medical colleges across the country to conduct orientation programme so that the students can gain knowledge and exposure about super speciality streams such as general medicine, neurology, urology, nephrology, cardiology etc.
MCI issued an advisory on February 13th, 2020 and has directed all the principals of medical colleges stating that Post Graduate Medical Education Training is based on the principle to provide as much exposure as possible to all the related specialities that form a part of their respective speciality discipline.
Dr R.K. Vats, Secretary-General, MCI informed that the students undergoing PG training in broad specialities must have knowledge about the related super specialities or the related broad specialities. For instance, MS surgery students should be exposed to Paediatric surgery, urology and others. Likewise, the students of MD should be exposed to Cardiology, Neurology etc. According to him, the same principle applies to all the broad specialities.

One of the Principals of Govt. Medical College stated that there is a usefulness of the MCI advisory. This exposure will help develop their skills. For instance, a PG student in general surgery should have knowledge about uro-surgery, paediatric surgery etc. A PG medical institute should also learn about the development of cardiac medicine. Such skills according to him are important to be a good doctor.
