Earlier, CBSE issued a circular stating that private schools were not allowed to appoint principals as they wish and the candidates or teachers who are aspiring to become principals must qualify Principal Eligibility Test (PET). The decision was taken by CBSE to maintain standards in education. Most of the private schools are adopting CBSE syllabus at the higher secondary level to prepare students well for National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) examination.

CBSE is giving permissions to schools to adopt CBSE syllabus, but the schools should not deteriorate the standards in education. For this purpose, qualified principals are necessary to maintain the standards. Hence, CBSE had come up with an idea of introducing PET and published the circular on the official site.

Currently, discussions are being held on whether to introduce PET or not. One of the officials revealed that the decision would be taken soon. According to sources, CBSE is more likely to introduce PET.

On the other hand, as the government made NEET mandatory, most of the schools across the country are introducing CBSE syllabus. The reason is that NEET syllabus is based on CBSE's syllabus.
