IRMA Partners with IIT BHU to Set Up Centre for Excellence in Refractory

IRMA (Indian Refractory Markers Association) and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT BHU) have entered into a significant collaboration for promoting innovation. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the two organisations on November 6, 2017.

Through this MoU, Centre for Excellence in Refractory will be set up at the Ceramics Department of IIT BHU. The centre will work towards bringing technological advancement to the refractory industry in India. The major motive is to make Indian refractory industry globally competitive.

Chairperson of IRMA, Mr. Hakimuddin Ali revealed that the Centre for Excellence in Refractory would fulfil the requirement of industry, as IRMA did not have an independent third party laboratory for material testing. The technical prowess of IRMA and cutting-edge infrastructure facilities at IIT BHU will bring a new era in material testing, he added.

The Centre for Excellence in Refractory at IIT BHU will provide third-party testing for refractory products as well as raw materials to suppliers, user industries and refractory makers. The third-party testing will also characterise indigenous raw materials that will help the refractory markers to figure out the best suited raw materials for different applications.

The initiative to establish Centre for Excellence in Refractory will prove to be a milestone in the development of the refractory industry. IIT BHU will emerge as a destination, where all the professionals in the refractory industry will come together and take the advantage of IIT BHU’s expertise for improving the quality of products. Bridging the gap between academia and industry will make Indian refractory products globally competitive.
