IRMA Starts Induction Programme for 40th Batch for PGDRM

The Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA) has begun with the classes for the 40th Batch of its Postgraduate Diploma in Rural Management (PGDRM). The introduction of the new joiners at IRMA is done in a nine-day orientation or induction programme.

The programme began its journey with a speech made by the Senior Advisor at Cargill India Pvt Ltd and Tata Global Beverages Ltd’s Independent Director, Mr Siraj Azmat Chaudhary. While addressing the students he stated that there are certain factors of learning and skills in the profession of management which he considers important to an individual’s life. He stated that the ability to make decisions in chaotic environments, the importance of making those decisions along with the realisation of understanding the true importance of networking and inter-dependence.

Unlike other orientation programmes, the Institute of Rural Management Anand allows its students to first experience real-life situations that they will have to deal with once they successfully complete the programme at the institute. As part of the induction programme, the students were allowed to visit Amul so that they get an idea on how cooperation as well as “collection action” helps in building up a brand that is recognised by millions. Along with an industry visit, the students are provided with hands-on experience in the field itself with their participation Induction Fieldwork Segment (IFS). The Induction Fieldwork Segment will help the students gain the necessary knowledge that they will need before entering their respective classes such as different real-world managerial situations and policy along with providing the students with the practical know-how of the field.

Sources state that through the Induction Fieldwork Segment, the students will be asked to spend some time with host families in different villages, understand some of the key elements or aspects of the economy, society as well as community present. They will have to start their networking from the moment they begin with IFS and talk with various communities as well as stakeholders at the village and understand the situation from a managerial perspective. They will then be asked to either create Vignettes of Rural Stories or any kind of Video and/or Picture story. This will act as a preview for the Village Fieldwork Segment that will take place in the first term of their programme.

Sources state that there was a participation of 215 students from the 40th batch of PGDRM this year in the Induction Fieldwork Segment and had visited over 70 villages in the state of Gujarat. It has also been noticed that the gender ratio in the 40th batch has also improved with a 6.14% increase in relations to the previous year. Sources added that more than half the batch, i.e. 51% of the batch has had an average of 23.8 months of work experience prior to joining the programme.
