Last month, Irom Sharmila broke her 16 year long fast against the special powers provided to the army in Manipur.
Students at Delhi University have been urged by activist ‘Iron Lady’ Irom Sharmila to join her in her fight against the wrong rulings and help the people of Manipur avail their civil rights. Last month, Irom Sharmila broke her 16 years long fast that she had started against the special powers provided to the army in the state.
While addressing the students of DU, Sharmila mentioned that she was there to influence the students so that they all come together to get their rights back.
Recently, at a function organised by the North-East Forum for International Solidarity (NEFIS), Sharmila received a standing ovation from people for her fast against the wrongful rights given to the army and her dedication towards the cause.

Sharmila addressed the students of Delhi University on Friday which was also the 120th birth anniversary of Hijam Irabot, a freedom fighter and politician from Manipur.
She also explained the students about her fast and said that she was just raising voice against something that was not right. Also, she considered it as her duty and responsibility to fight against the laws that were not in favour of the citizens of the state. She pointed out that the reason behind her ending her fast is not because she wanted to end the struggle or the fight, instead, she wants more people to participate in the fight and struggle along with her and make it more of a mass issue than an individual issue.

Sharmila also urged the students not to accept the wrong laws or wrongdoings and instead fight against them and in favour of what is right for the society as the students are considered to be a symbol of inspiration. She also mentioned that she soon will be joining the politics and lead masses as a politician so that every politician is a reflection of the common man.
Regarding her standing in the elections, she said that people want her to raise as a leader, however, other politicians or the existing power holders are not letting the people support her. So she urged the students to follow her and bring a change in order to make a difference.
