Is NEET 2025 expected to be tougher than 2024?: The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is just around the corner, and aspirants are wondering if NEET 2025 will be tougher than 2024. While it is challenging to predict the difficulty level of NEET, as it changes yearly, some factors might make NEET 2025 more competitive than it was in 2024.
The number of registrations for NEET 2025 is expected to rise by 1 to 1.5 lakhs, with 25 lakhs or 25.5 lakhs candidates likely to appear for the exam. This surge in registrations will increase competition among candidates, making it tougher to secure a good rank.
With more applicants competing for a limited number of seats, the value of marks will also decrease. For instance, a candidate who scored 600 marks and secured a rank of 10,000 in 2024 might find themselves ranked between 15,000 to 20,000 with the same score in 2025. Do note that the marks vs ranks value is taken as an example and does not reflect the true ratio of marks to ranks.
Starting in 2025, the NEET exam pattern will revert to its pre-Covid format. Candidates will now have to answer 180 compulsory questions within 180 minutes (3 hours) only. During the Covid period, this time was increased to 200 minutes (3 hours and 20 minutes). The number of questions however will remain the same with 45 questions each from Physics and Chemistry, and 90 questions from Biology (Botany and Zoology). This change will make the exam more challenging, as candidates will have to answer more questions.
With the increased competition and revised exam pattern, candidates will need to secure more marks to get admission into top medical colleges. Typically, high-rankers within the top 5,000 secure seats in premier institutions, while lower ranks reduce admission chances to the top institutions.
While it is difficult to predict the exact difficulty level of NEET 2025, the increased registrations, reduced value of marks, and revised exam pattern might make it tougher than NEET 2024. Aspirants must gear up for the challenge and prepare strategically to secure a good rank.
