In a bid to provide better future opportunities for higher education to students, the state Government has decided to assign a diploma from a recognised Industrial Training Institute as the same status of having passed 10th and 12th exam.

According to Cheif Secretary Alok Ranjan those who have cleared class 10th, including the dropouts, would not have to back to school to finish the secondary education. Instead, they could pursue a diploma of two years and above from a recognised industrial training institute and they would be considered having passed class 10th and 12th respectively.

However, students will have to mandatorily clear the Hindi subject of Secondary Board of Education Examination.

Secretary, Vocational Education, Bhuvnesh Kumar said that the state gazette had been published with the amendment in Intermediate Education Act 1921 to benefit such students. Intermediate Education Act 1921 has been amended several times since its enactment in 1921, was passed by the state legislature in order to establish a board to take the place of the Allahabad University in regulating and supervising the system of high school and interim- date education in the state and to prescribe courses therefor. The act was last amended in 1975.

The act provides that the board should appoint committees of courses, an examination committee, a committee for recognition, a finance committee and such other committees, if any, as may be prescribe- bed by the regulations. Such committees are to con- sist of the members of the board and of such other fit. Each person, if any, as the board in each case may deem committee can co-opt persons to serve thereon up to a limit of one-third of the total number of members of the committee. The board is also authorised to make regulations for the purpose of carrying into effect the provisions of the act.
