A move by the state government. 1,500 girls studying in 72 government industrial training institutes (ITIs) will receive free uniforms and railway tickets by the state government.
Principal secretary of the labour department, MS Bhatia said, "The girls will be given free railway tickets for sleeper class when they have to travel for job interviews and placements. At present, we provide a 50% discount on their railway tickets which will be free now."
Rakesh Kumar Sinha, special secretary of the department said "The girls belonging to poor financial background either migrate to other states or are trafficked out of the state. We are introducing these schemes to get more girls to join the ITI. If they enrol in the ITIs they would be able to get dignified jobs and live life on their own terms,"
He says the aim is to empower the girls of the state and help them find better jobs.
Sinha said apart from these benefits, there are also plans to start new women-friendly courses in the institutes. "We are planning on introducing courses like cookery, stitching and other similar courses which will help to empower women," he said, adding that ITIs in Jharkhand charge Rs 14,100 per annum as against the institutes in other states that charge Rs 30,000-40,000 annually.
Apart from the various provisions for women, there is also a plan to introduce smart classes in ITIs and Jharkhand will be the first state to do so.
"There are many technical courses like that of electrician and fitters which can be easily explained through smart classes so we have decided to introduce audio-visual classes for such courses from the next academic year. Also, there is a plan to provide free Wi-Fi to all ITI campuses. Initially, we have identified 14 government ITIs where smart classes will be introduced as a pilot project" says Sinha.
There are plans to distribute tabs among the students of all the ITIs. As many as 7,000 students of 27 government ITIs will be benefitted once the schemes are introduced across the state.
